Sweetwater Hospital Partner
The Sweetwater Hospital volunteered to help my students dissect pigs and a turtle. Many of my students want to work in the medical field when they get older, so this was a wonderful experience for many of them. This is a project that the hospital says they will help us with in the future. |
Job ShadowI job shadowed Robert Edwards at ORAU. He is part of the webdesign team. I learned that most companies like ORAU are heading towards content management systems as a way to allow all employees an easy way to update the website. Collaboration is very important in the creation of a website. I talked to Edward about how school helped him prepare for webdesign and he felt that he learned most of it on his own. He advised me that the best thing I can do for students is to teach them to think. This has been a common theme throughout my cohort experience.

STEM NightBrown Intermediate School's STEM night was a huge success! We had more than 200 people show up for the event. Students were building catapults, bridges, and observing the 3d printer in action! Some rooms had kids building slime while others were learning about density. Everyone that was in attendance had a great time, and I felt that it really brought a positive light for STEM in our area.

Pig DissectionsStudents loved dissecting the pigs to learn more about anatomy. Some of the stations were able to really harvest perfectly intact organs. The students really did a wonderful job being patient as 10-11 year old surgeons!
